I have always been fascinated by the Hollywood portraits of the movie stars from the 1920’s through the 1940’s. The Hollywood portrait photographers responsibility was to create a portrait of the star that was iconic, adored, admired and collected. The portraits created of the movie stars by the photographer purpose was to “sell the movie.” When people saw beautifully designed movie posters with the movie star’s portrait of course it generated excitement to see the movie. The portrait photographers job was even more important than the actual movie cinematographer in a way.
